Minnesota United vs CF Montreal Preview

Minnesota United FC News Release

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - MNUFC is set to face off against its second Canadian opponent in as many weeks on Saturday, this time heading to Montreal to battle another Eastern Conference opponent. The Loons will complete the Canadian trifecta for the first time since 2019 having played against all three Canadian clubs this season. Minnesota shared the points against Toronto FC last weekend, but once again had more than 20 attempts on net for the second straight game, a positive sign for the offense starting to gel. Additionally, further bolstering the attack, the Loons' Argentinian number 10, Emanuel Reynoso made his season debut and was impactful immediately from his introduction. MNUFC will hope to continue its positive road form, the Loons are tied for most road wins on the season (4) and second in road points earned (12pts) to Orlando SC (14pts). Montreal is coming off a midweek Canadian Championship final loss on the road against the Vancouver Whitecaps, but their home form has been stellar this season, having only lost once in six matches (5-1-0). Forces collide on Saturday as Minnesota looks to give Montreal its second home loss of the season and earn an impressive 5th win on the road.

ADRIAN HEATH ON THE MATCH AT CF MONTREAL ON SATURDAY...

"Hernan's [Losada] team is normally very, very fit and they get after the opposition. They get after you at home. It's always been a difficult place to go. We've had some good results there in the past, let's hope that continues. I think the other one for us is that we know what's coming: they've got some good, young players. They've got plenty of athleticism. They've got plenty of pace. We'll have to defend well but that's been a good part for us, and then take our opportunities if and when they come on the counterattack."

HASSANI DOTSON ON THE KEY TO GETTING A RESULT AT CF MONTREAL ON SATURDAY...

"The last couple of seasons, they've had a good recipe for success. To do what we've been doing on the road of being pretty compact and playing a more disciplined style of soccer and trying to catch them [opponents] on the counter. We'll be going over more video to see the spaces that we can exploit, but they're [CF Montreal] a pretty good balanced side."

STORYLINES PRESENTED BY BMW

Storylines est totalement abasourdi par ce qui se passe à Montréal. There are some crazy changes going on up in Quebec right now; are you all seeing this? The club formerly known as l'Impact dé Montréal is back at it again, but this time they aren't changing their name or crest.

While we're here, why did they ever change that snowflake logo? That thing was the bee's knees, and I don't say that lightly. I guess the fleur-de-lis is alright, but I always think of the Big Easy when I see that. If you're gonna have a generic circle logo, at least throw some Celine Dion lyrics and a big 'ol pile of poutine on it so we know who the heck you are.

No, this time around, the changes are on the team sheet and in the league standings. The team's old moniker appears to have officially died with the departure of all of Montréal's impact players this past offseason, and the club's performance has taken a significant plunge following their incredible 2022 campaign.

With 65 points, 20 wins, and 63 goals scored, Club dé Foot Montréal was flying last year. They finished the season just two points off of Supporter's Shield winners LAFC, securing the number two seed in the Eastern Conference in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. A 3-0 loss to NYCFC saw them crash out in the conference semis, but hope and momentum remained on their side after such a promising year. [READ MORE]
