Minnesota United FC vs. New England Revolution Preview

September 8, 2023 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Minnesota United FC News Release

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - The New England Revolution will make its way to Allianz Field to face Minnesota United for its second-ever match in Minnesota, the fifth game in the all-time, regular-season series. In the series history, the Loons lone win against the Revs (1-3-0, W-L-D) came at home at TCF Bank Stadium in July of 2018. New England currently sit second in the Eastern Conference with 47 points and 13 wins, and have scored 45 goals, good for fifth best in the league. Similar to the Loons, New England enters the match with a five-game unbeaten streak in the regular-season while MNUFC is unbeaten through its last six contests.

HEAD COACH ADRIAN HEATH ON DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCES TO ONLY ALLOW THREE GOALS IN SIX MATCHES CONTRIBUTING TO THE UNDEFEATED STREAK...

"It does because if you can score on the one end and keep them out of the other - it sounds really simple - that's normally a good recipe. Our defense has done really well of late, and Dayne [St. Clair] has come up with some big saves when we've needed him. We can single the defense out or the goalkeeper but the game has changed now. You start defending from the front, so Rey [Emanuel Reynoso] and Teemu [Pukki], that's the first line, then it's the four in front of them. Collectively, there's been a real determination to defend our goal and we need that to continue."

DEFENDER DJ TAYLOR ON CREATING SPEARATION BETWEEN TEAMS IN THE TABLE WITH GOOD RESULTS...

"This is huge right now for us, especially being at home. We struggled in the first half of the season to win at home and for us to be able to finally put a team effort together, all around working hard, scoring goals and defending well is huge for us. Every match right now is kind of like the MLS Cup final for us. We're just fighting for everything and hopefully we'll win each game as we move forward."

STORYLINES PRESENTED BY BMW

Storylines is back and preparing to do battle with a formidable beast from the east. That beast, of course, would be the New England Revolution, who sit somewhat comfortably near the top of the table in the Eastern Conference #2 spot. At times, facing a cross-conference foe in the regular season doesn't quite hold the weight of a late-season, in-conference match-up between teams jockeying for playoff position. But in this case, Saturday's matchup against the Revs may carry a bit more importance than the usual cross-conference get-together. More specifically, this showdown may serve as a "measuring stick" for a Loons squad that has intentions of riding their recent hot streak straight into a deep run in the MLS Cup Playoffs.
