Minnesota Lynx News Release
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - With anticipation of the 2010 WNBA Draft escalating, the Minnesota Lynx -- who hold the Nos. 2 and 3 picks in the upcoming draft -- today unveiled a special section on www.lynxbasketball.com devoted to coverage of the April 8 draft, which will be held in Secaucus, N.J., and broadcasted live on ESPN 2 and ESPN360 beginning at 2:00 p.m. CT. The site features extensive scouting reports and evaluations of 15 of the top draft-eligible collegiate seniors, along with continually updated statistical information on more than 50 other potential draftees.
"To build on what has already been a dream offseason for the Lynx, it's important that we get our fans engaged in what we expect to be another successful draft," said Lynx Chief Operating Officer Conrad Smith. "Drafting twice within the first three picks allows us the opportunity to add even more talent to our existing core of young and talented players. With Seimone Augustus, Nicky Anosike, Rebekkah Brunson, Charde Houston, Lindsay Whalen, Candice Wiggins and the Nos. 2 and 3 picks all in their 20s, we expect the next several years of Lynx basketball to be the best in our franchise's history. We're committed to providing our fans with the best possible coverage of the 2010 WNBA Draft and our Draft Central page is the ideal forum for our fans to learn more about the future stars of the Lynx and the WNBA."
Located at the top of the Draft Central page will be a module featuring action shots and biographical information of the top 15 collegiate seniors. From there, fans can click on each player's individual link to pull up scouting reports and evaluations from some of the top women's basketball contributors, including Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve. Players featured include Stanford's Jayne Appel, Connecticut's Tina Charles and Kalana Greene, Middle Tennessee State's Alysha Clark, Nebraska's Kelsey Griffin, Botas' (Turkey) Epiphanny Prince and Virginia's Monica Wright.
In addition to the expanded coverage offered to 15 of the top collegiate seniors, more than 50 other potential draftees will be included in the report, with links provided to their respective college bios and updated stats from the 2009-10 season.
Other applications included in the special section are Lynx draft history, draft news and the 2010 WNBA Draft order. To learn more about over 60 draft-eligible collegiate seniors, please go to: http://www.wnba.com/lynx/news/lynx_draft_central_2010.html.
On Nov. 5, 2009, the Lynx used the team's combinations acquired from New York to win the annual Draft Lottery, along with using its own combinations to secure the fourth overall selection. The departure of the Sacramento franchise from the WNBA moved the Lynx' second first-round pick up to No. 3 overall, and the Lynx then traded the first overall selection, along with point guard Renee Montgomery, to Connecticut in exchange for Lindsay Whalen and the No. 2 selection. Since 1998, The Lynx are the first team to enter a WNBA Draft with two top-three picks.
The Minnesota Lynx will tip off the team's 12th season of basketball in the Twin Cities with their Home Opener on Sunday, May 16 at 6:00 p.m. against the Washington Mystics. Lower-level tickets are available for as little as $10 a game for the 17-game home season and can be purchased by calling 612-673-8400, e-mailing tickets@lynxbasketball.com, or visiting the Lynx website at www.lynxbasketball.com.
