Minnesota Lynx News Release
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Lynx today announced that they have re-signed restricted free-agent center Vanessa Hayden-Johnson. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
"After a successful stint overseas, we are very excited to have Vanessa back with the organization," Lynx Chief Operating Officer Roger Griffith said. "The organization and our fans missed Vanessa's presence on and off the court while she out in 2007. Now that she is back on the court, Vanessa has worked hard overseas to get ready for our season in 2008. We anticipate that she will be ready to help our team when she arrives in training camp following the end of her season in Turkey."
Hayden-Johnson missed the 2007 season due to pregnancy. She gave birth to a daughter, Zyon Brianna Johnson, on June 3. Hayden was drafted by the Lynx in the first round of the 2004 WNBA Draft with the seventh overall selection. In three seasons, she averaged 6.2 points, 3.9 points, and 1.5 blocks in 93 career games. Her best season with the Lynx was the 2005 season, in which she averaged 7.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.2 blocks in 31 games.
Hayden-Johnson has averaged 11.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game in 22 Turkish League games with Besiktas Cola Turka. In seven EuroCup games, Hayden-Johnson's averages jumped to 15.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks. Her team is currently in the playoff semifinals.
The Minnesota Lynx will open their 10th Anniversary Season on May 18, 2008, against the Detroit Shock. Season and group tickets are on sale now for this historic season. Be a part of the celebration by calling 612-673-8400, e-mailing tickets@lynxbasketball.com or visiting www.lynxbasketball.com.
