
Four All-Stars, First Round Pick Highlight Monarchs 2008 Training Camp Roster

SACRAMENTO, CALIF. - Four WNBA All-Stars and first-round pick, Laura Harper, highlight the Sacramento Monarchs 2008 Training Camp roster, announced today by team officials.
Sacramento's 2008 Training Camp roster features 11 Monarchs veterans - including WNBA All-Stars Rebekkah Brunson, Kara Lawson, Ticha Penicheiro and DeMya Walker - and the addition of four drafted players and three camp invitees. The group is comprised of seven guards, seven forwards and one center, with three Monarchs who play multiple positions.
Absent from this year's Training Camp are long-time Monarchs superstar Yolanda Griffith, who signed a free agent contract with the Seattle Storm on April 8, and Kristin Haynie, who was selected by the Atlanta Dream in the dispersal draft.
Training Camp opens on Monday, April 21, and the Monarchs begin preseason play against Seattle Storm on Friday, May 2, at ARCO Arena with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m. PDT. The team then travels to Tampa, Fla., for a 4:00 p.m. PDT contest against the Washington Mystics at the University of Tampa.
The Monarchs open their 12th WNBA season at ARCO Arena as they take on their 2007 WNBA Playoffs First Round opponent, the San Antonio Silver Stars, on May 17, at 7 p.m., PDT, with local television coverage on News10.
Following their first game of the 2008 season, the Monarchs travel for three road games before returning to ARCO Arena for a two-game homestand; they will face the Houston Comets on Friday, May 30 and the Detroit Shock on Friday, June 6.
