Evansville Otters News Release

Aug. 17, 2008, Marion, Ill. - Evansville faced the top pitchers in the Frontier League and Ryan Bird (13-3) was everything he was billed to be, striking out 10 in eight innings of work while getting 11 runs in support as the Otters fall 11-4.

The Miners plated three runs in the first and third innings providing all the offense that Bird would need. Dustin Renfrow allowed the final four runs for the Miners in the eighth inning, but the Otters would continue to battle in the ninth, with the first five reaching, which included an RBI double from Ryan Bethel in his final at-bat for the Otters. Isaac Omura and Nick Salotti followed with RBI singles themselves, but the hole was too deep for the Otters, who fall to 35-46 on the season.

After a day off Monday, Evansville begins a six-game home stand starting with the Midwest Sliders Tuesday night as the Principle Financial Group Family Fun Fest come to Bosse Field. The most extensive traveling baseball festival in history starts at 4:05 Tuesday afternoon before the 7:05 first pitch against the Sliders.
