Miller Nets Two As Raiders Double Up Warriors

Moose Jaw, SK - The Prince Albert Raiders (14-1-0-0) picked up their seventh consecutive win on Wednesday night, downing the Moose Jaw Warriors (5-4-2-0) by a 4-2 score at Mosaic Place.
Carson Miller sparked the offence with two goals in the first period and assisting on another. Brett Leason and Cole Fonstad also had multi-point efforts for the Raiders.
Miller got the scoring started 9:33 into the contest. Cole Fonstad cycled the puck to Spencer Moe behind the net, who found the Yorkton product cutting to the goal. Miller made no mistake his fifth of the year.
Less than three minutes later, Miller struck again. Carrying the puck into the offensive zone, his shot from the top of the left faceoff circle beat Evanoff to put the Raiders up 2-0. With an assist on the play, Leason extended his point streak to 15 games.
Leason had a chance to get on the board himself early in the second. Set up at the side of the goal, the CHL's leading scorer was unable to convert on the short angle shot attempt.
Shortly after Leason's attempt, the Warriors got on the board. Recently acquired Keenan Taphorn was the beneficiary of a scramble in front of the net, burying a puck at his feet to make it a 2-1 game 5:06 into the middle frame.
Three minutes later, the Raiders responded and restored their two-goal lead. Kaiden Guhle tallied his first WHL goal with a shot from the point on the power play. It also extended his recent point streak to three games.
The score stayed the same until a penalty-filled third period. On a Warriors power play early in the frame, Tristin Langan deflected a shot past Ian Scott to bring Moose Jaw back within one at the 1:43 mark of the third.
The two teams traded minor penalties until the final four minutes of the game. After a couple of shorthanded chances, Noah Gregor was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct for cross-checking with 3:37 to play. No call was made during play, but the penalties were announced following a huddle by the officials on the ice.
The Warriors weren't able to get anything going on their power play, but the Raiders put the game away. Sean Montgomery chipped a puck ahead to Leason, who scored into the empty net with 1:24 remaining to round out the scoring.
Scott earned his 12th win of the year with a 25-save performance. Evanoff made 33 saves in a losing effort.
The Raiders are back in action on Saturday night when the Regina Pats (3-9-0-0) come to town. Tickets are available at the Raider Office and at raiderhockey.com. Game time is 7 p.m.
