Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Tyson Miller tossed seven shutout innings on Wednesday to head the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in a 3-0 win over the Carolina Mudcats from TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.
Miller (3-2) worked seven innings for the first time in his career, only ceding three hits while striking out seven and walking one. Wyatt Short fired 1.2 frames for Myrtle Beach (11-15) while allowing just two base runners on walks and striking out four. Jhon Romero recorded the last out of the game to pick up his second save of the season. The blanking marked the first time the Pelicans had shut out an opponant in a nine-inning game.
The Birds jumped out in front in the bottom of the third inning against Carolina (11-15) starter Cam Roegner (2-1). Jhonny Pereda singled home Andruw Monasterio , who went 3-for-5, to make it 1-0 Myrtle Beach.
In the fourth, the Pelicans added on with a Chris Pieters RBI single to make it 2-0. Pieters ended his night 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Vimael Machin tacked another tally on the board for the Birds in the eighth with a bases-loaded walk to give him 21 walks and only 13 strike outs in 23 games-played this season. He has reached base in 16 straight games, the second-longest active streak in the Carolina League.
The win was the Pelicans' season-high fourth in a row, securing the Birds' third series victory in their last four sets. Myrtle Beach has won eight of their last 11 games.
