GREENVILLE, S.C. – Eighteen-year-old Greg Miller struck out 14 batters en route to the Suns' 6-0 victory over the Greenville Braves in front of 5,510 fans Friday at Municipal Stadium.

Miller (1-0) earned the victory, pitching seven innings, allowing two dribbler singles by Ramon Castro in the first and third innings. He walked one and fanned a career-high 14 batters, which is also the most by a Suns pitcher this season. In two starts with the Suns, Miller has allowed five hits – all singles – and no runs in 14 innings. Only one runner has reached third base vs. Miller and only one runner has reached base with less than two outs vs. Miller since he joined the Suns.

Braves starter Daniel Curtis (2-3) earned the loss, despite allowing five hits and two runs over seven innings. He struck out a season-high eight hitters and did not walk any.

The Suns (54-62 overall, 23-24 second half) had all the offense they needed by the second pitch of the ballgame. Shane Victorino homered to right off Curtis, giving Jacksonville an early lead. Tony Socarras singled home Derek Michaelis in the second inning to double the Suns' advantage. Victorino, who had three hits, and Socarras each had RBI hits in the ninth inning to pad the lead.

Richard Lewis was the only batter not to strike out for the Braves (54-59, 18-27). The Suns struck out 17 Braves, tying a season-high for the pitching staff.

Right-hander Heath Totten (9-9, 3.40 ERA) is scheduled to face Braves righty Brett Evert (3-6, 3.73) at 7:15 p.m. Saturday at Municipal Stadium.

SUNS SPOTS: The Suns' six-run margin of victory was the largest for the Suns since before the All-Star Break in an 11-5 win July 6 at Birmingham. ...Thursday, the Suns were shut out for the 13th time this season. Friday, the Suns recorded their seventh shutout.
