Milwaukee Milkmen News Release
FRANKLIN, Wis. - The Milwaukee Milkmen won the last game of their three-game series against the Chicago Dogs to claim the series and put the team in a great position before taking on the Kansas City Monarchs.
Milwaukee dropped yesterday's game after it was tied going into the ninth inning and Chicago put up a four-spot before shutting down the Milkmen to claim the game 5-1.
Then with the series tied at one game apiece coming into Sunday, Milwaukee opened up the game by scoring two runs with Bryan Torres coming home on a sacrifice fly from Gabriel Cancel and Cam Balego scoring on a wild pitch.
The two teams battled out the rest of the game. Starting pitcher Ryan Zimmerman was able to go six innings and strike out four while giving up just one run. Chicago then scraped another run in during the seventh to tie the game at two.
The clubs then went to extras where the Dogs scored their designated runner with two outs to claim the lead. Milwaukee then quickly responded by scoring Cam Balego when Gabriel Cancel smashed a base hit to tie it at three.
Nate Hadley then came on to pitch the eleventh inning and retired the side in order to not allow another run for Chicago. Then with Cam Redding standing at second base to start the bottom of the inning, Aaron Hill smashed a hit to the outfield to score Redding and take the game 4-3.
"You want to win every game but with Chicago, it's a little different," Milkmen manager said of taking the game and series over their rivals. "They're a good baseball team and we knew the series was on the line. But this gives us confidence heading into an off day and a big matchup against Kansas City."
Milwaukee will now have its first day off in two weeks before taking on the Kansas City Monarchs. The two teams sit atop both the East and West divisions as the matchup is sure to be an intense battle at Franklin Field. We hope to see you soon!
Tickets are on sale at MilwaukeeMilkmen.com or at the Franklin Field Box Office prior to the game.
