Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - After the Cougars claimed a series victory last night, the Cleburne Railroaders responded with a 9-3 victory keyed by a seven-run third inning and a complete game from starter Kevin Hilton.
After the first two innings were scoreless, Cleburne (37-38) broke the game open in the top of the third. Facing Cougar starter Tyler Beardsley (7-5), Zach Nehrir and Bret Boswell hit back-to-back singles to start the frame. Jose Sermo then doubled to score Nehrir and make it 1-0. Following Sermo's double, Ryan Hernandez walked and Hill Alexander singled to score two more and push the lead to three runs. The Railroaders would go on to add four more runs in the inning mainly via the walk to increase their lead to 7-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Cougars began to come back against Hilton (6-3). Josh Allen led off the inning with a single before coming in to score on an RBI double by Olivier Basabe. Two batters later, Pete Kozma smacked another double to score Basabe and make it 7-2. One inning later, the Cougars pulled closer on a pair of doubles from Cornelius Randolph and Jonah Davis that made it 7-3.
However, the fifth inning would be the end of the scoring for the Kane County offense. Hilton held the Cougars without a run over the final four innings to earn the complete game victory. Cleburne went on to add two more insurance runs on a Boswell single in the seventh to make it 9-3. In the loss, Cougars' reliever CJ Carter tossed two perfect innings in the eighth and ninth.
The Cougars will have an off day on Monday followed by a six-game road trip at Sioux Falls and Gary. Kane County returns to Northwestern Medicine Field for a six-game homestand beginning on Tuesday, August 15th. Upcoming promotions include American Girl Night on Friday, August 19th and Seinfeld Night on Saturday August 20th. For tickets and more information call 630-232-8811 or visit kccougars.com/tickets.
