Charleston RiverDogs News Release

CHARLESTON, SC – All of us know that Fun is Good, but only Mike Veeck could write a book about it.

That simple, three-word phrase that has been adopted by the Charleston RiverDogs as their cornerstone marketing slogan for several years, now takes a new look. According to RiverDogs co-owner Mike Veeck, if the fun is good concept can be successful for baseball, it can work for a multi-million dollar corporation or even a small business.

Fun is Good. It is even hard to say it without smiling.

Veeck, who has parlayed his passion for baseball and fun at the ballpark into a national reputation as maverick sports marketing whiz, has written his first book and is entitled, Fun Is Good – How to Create Joy and Passion in your Workplace & Career.

Veeck will be at the Friday, April 22 RiverDogs – Greenville Bombers baseball game (7:05 start) at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park to sign copies of his book. He will be located on the concourse behind sections 120-122, and the signing session is sponsored jointly by Howard Johnson/Carolinas, Saturn and Carolina First.

Along with Pete Williams, Veeck presents his simple, no-fail formula for business success, which is: make work fun and you'll create a culture where the best people will want to work and customers will want to spend their money.

In the book, the son of legendary baseball owner and Hall of Famer Bill Veeck, shows why an injection of fun, creativity and passion is so essential to business success.

According to Veeck, the Fun is Good philosophy evolved because he noticed too many people leading lives that are not as fulfilling as they could be. Businesses are not nearly as prosperous as they could be because they are missing a Fun is Good culture, where creativity and irreverence are valued and where it is OK to take your job seriously, but not yourself seriously.
