(Salisbury, MD)—The Delmarva Shorebirds rallied for four runs in the eighth inning Wednesday to notch an 11-8 comeback win over the Lake County Captains at Perdue Stadium.

The Shorebirds actually came from behind twice, once after the Captains took an early 2-0 lead, and again in the eighth when they erased an 8-7 Captains advantage. Wednesday's loss marks the first time this season that the Captains (8-5) have lost two straight games.

The Shorebirds moved a game ahead of the Captains in the SAL North standings. The two teams entered Wednesday's game tied for second, 1 ½ games behind Hagerstown.

The Captains came off the mat in the eighth, batting around against Josh Potter (2-1). Josh Noviskey stroked an RBI single, and then Chad Longworth's grounder to second with the bases loaded was misplayed by Pete Maestrales for an error, allowing two runs to score. Argenis Reyes capped the inning with an RBI single to give the Captains an 8-7 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth, however, the Shorebirds met reliever Scott Roehl (0-1) with three straight hits, including an RBI double by Arturo Rivas to tie the game at 8-8. After an intentional walk to load the bases with one out, Delmarva's Josh McCurdy hit a slow ground ball to short. The Captains got the force at second, but McCurdy legged out the relay and a run scored to give the Shorebirds a 9-8 lead. Juan Gutierrez and Brian Bock then added consecutive RBI singles to push the lead to 11-8.

Lefty David Haehnel entered the game in the ninth and retired the Captains without a run to post his seventh save in seven chances this season.

Delmarva (9-4) forged a 6-2 lead against Captains starter Reid Santos, helped along by the three-run third inning when the first two Delmarva hitters reach on back-to-back catcher's interference calls against Noviskey.

Chris Gimenez homered for the Captains, a two run shot in the sixth. It was his second of the season.

The Captains will complete the series and road trip with a 6:35 game on Thursday evening (WELW AM 1330). The Captains will return to Eastlake on Friday to begin an eight-game homestand at Classic Park.
