Catfish Powers Their Way Past Dogs

April 20, 2005 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Columbus Catfish News Release

Columbus, GA- The Columbus Catfish pounded out twelve hits and scored ten runs against the Charleston RiverDogs to take their first series of the year, 10-4. The Catfish received two hits each from Jamie Hoffmann, Blake DeWitt and Sam Steidl and a two-run home run from Travis Denker to pace the offense.

Sloppy pitching and defense by Charleston starter Jeff Marquez (0-3) allowed the Catfish to put together a five-run third inning. Marquez walked two batters, both of whom scored, and threw two wild pitches in the inning and had a throwing error to first base, which allowed the fifth Catfish run of the inning.

Starting pitcher Javy Guerra picked up his first win of the season after pitching five innings and allowing three earned runs on four hits. Wesley Wright, Albenis Castillo and Cory Wade did not allow an earned run over the final four innings.

Tomorrow the Catfish head to Rome to begin a four-game series on the road. They head back to Columbus on Tuesday, to begin a four-game set against the Greenville Bombers, a single-A affiliate for the World Champion Boston Red Sox. On Friday, April 29th, the Catfish play a 7:00pm game against the Bombers and play host to the Zooperstars. Tickets are still on sale by calling 706-571-8866.
