Greenville Drive News Release

GREENVILLE, SC - Savannah came to the ballpark late Wednesday morning looking to break an eight-game losing streak. After gaining a 9-0 lead through three innings they would go on to accomplish their mission, though Greenville made it tougher than the Sandgnats would have liked in a 10-7 final at Municipal Stadium.

The Sandgnats jumped on Bombers starter Adam Blackley (L, 1-1) for three runs in the second inning and six more, five charged to Blackley, in the third in building their lead. Trey Webb's two-run homer capped the second-inning rally. In the third, Savannah sent 12 batters to the plate. Edgardo Baez, who finished the day with three doubles and two RBI, drove in a pair of runs with a double to right-center field. Luke Montz added a two-run double in the frame off Greenville reliever Ryan Schroyer.

Greenville, however, would make life uncomfortable for the Gnats. Savannah starter Daryl Thompson did not allow a hit over his first four and two-thirds innings, but the Bombers would touch him for four unearned runs in the fifth. An RBI double by Bryan Pritz and Andrew Pinckney's run-scoring single highlighted the frame.

After the Sandgnats tallied a run in the sixth inning to up the lead to 10-5, Greenville would plate two runs in the sixth inning off winning pitcher Tom Wilson (1-1). Catcher Salvadore Paniagua's sacrifice fly and an RBI single by Tony Granadillo cut the deficit to 10-7.

The Bombers threatened in both the the eighth and ninth innings against Sandgnats righthander Ben Cox, bringing the tying run to the plate in both frames. However, Cox worked out of both jams to earn his first save of the season.

Following an off-day Thursday, the Bombers open an eight-game roadtrip on Friday night at Charleston. Righthander Kyle Jackson (0-1) will pitch for Greenville.
