
Mike Smith Earns First AHL Shutout With 2-0 Victory Against Ducks

West Valley City - The Utah Grizzlies extended their first winning streak of the year to three games holding on for a 2-0 decision over the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks at the 'E' Center Sunday. Mike Smith earned the shutout, his first of the season, with 31 saves.
After a scoreless first period, it was Jarrod Skalde who picked up a rebound and caught the net 12 seconds into the second period. Mike Sgroi added the Grizzlies' second score at the 18:46 mark. For Skalde, it extends his point streak to five consecutive games.
Cincinnati, who has now lost seven of their last eight games, falls to 9-13-3-0. Utah improves to 9-12-1-2 and is now on their first winning streak of three games or more since a four-game streak ended on March 14, 2002. Smith's shutout was the second of his professional career and his first in the AHL.
The Grizzlies will now be on the road for four games, playing next in Bridgeport on Wednesday. Face-off is scheduled for 5:05 pm (mst).
