(Edmonton) The CFL's all-time leading rusher, Edmonton Eskimo running back Mike Pringle announced his retirement today. In 2004, Pringle established new CFL records for career rushing yardage (16,425), yards from scrimmage (20,254) and tied the all-time touchdown mark (137). He finished the 2004 campaign with 1,141 rushing yards (fourth in the CFL) on 259 carries with 8 touchdowns. Mike also added 445 yards on 48 catches and 1 receiving touchdown.
"When I entered pro football, I had no idea that I would be leaving almost 15 years later, said Pringle. "After three teams and many highs and lows I've been blessed to play football for 30 of the 37 years I've been alive. To my teammates, coaches and fans throughout the CFL, thank you for your support and your friendship, I will miss you all."
"I've known Mike for many years and we've enjoyed great success together," said Eskimo Head Coach Danny Maciocia. "His career should be seen not solely in terms of the records, but also for the incredible dedication he brought to the stadium every day. Mike Pringle was a very special player."
