Frisco RoughRiders News Release

FRISCO, TEXAS - Today the Frisco RoughRiders announce that Mike Olt has been activated off the 7-day disabled list and transferred from Triple-A Round Rock to the RoughRiders. Olt had been dealing with vision problems and was placed on the disabled list earlier this month. Roman Mendez has been placed on the 7-day disabled list after having surgery today for a stress fracture in his right elbow and will miss the remainder of the season. The ‘Riders roster remains at 25 active players.

Olt, 24, played for the RoughRiders for part of the 2012 campaign. The Branford, Connecticut native played 95 games for Frisco last season, batting .288. He clubbed 28 home runs, 17 doubles, a triple and drove in 82 runs. He also walked 61 times for .398 on-base percentage. The Rangers purchased his contract on August 2, 2012, and he made his MLB debut the same day against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In 20 games, Olt hit .152 in 33 at bats for the Rangers, with one double and five RBI. Olt opened this season at Triple-A Round Rock where he hit just .139 in 20 games with one home run with the Express before being placed on disabled list.

Mendez, 22, last pitched on Tuesday and left the game with an apparent arm injury and has been placed on the disabled list. The right-handed reliever has been tremendous out of the bullpen, going 2-0 with two saves. In 16 appearances spanning 24.2 innings, Mendez has allowed just 12 hits and sports a 1.82 ERA. He has struck out 24 and walked 11.

With the two moves, Frisco's roster remains at 25 active players, which is the Texas League limit.
