Midland RockHounds News Release

The last three RockHounds home games have ended with scores of 19-11, 10-1 and 16-1 (the 'Hounds won two-of-three), which meant that (a) a boat load of runs have been scored and (b) there has been little, if any, drama in those games. "Drama 101" reconvened Thursday night.

The RockHounds and Tulsa traded early-game salvos, with Dusty Coleman ripping a two-run triple in the first inning and Tulsa's Kent Matthes answering with a two-run home run in the second. Tulsa built a 4-2 lead which stood until the seventh, when David Freitas launched a solo home run (see below). Darwin Perez then doubled and moved to third on a fly ball to fairly shallow right. The base running effort paid off when Perez scored on D'Arby Myers' sharp single to left (Darwin would likely not have scored from second base on the play).

The game remained tied at 4-4 until the 10th inning, although the 'Hounds had a great chance to end it in "regulation time," loading the bases with one out in the ninth. Mike Marbry came in from the Tulsa bullpen and got Coleman to ground into a double play.

Ironically, a strikeout then started the game-winning rally. Tyler Ladendorf struck out on an 0-2 pitch in the dirt, but reached base when the ball got back to the backstop. Chad Oberacker then grounded into a potential double play, but hustled down the line to narrowly beat the relay throw. Perez then beat out a scratch single, again hustling down the line. With two on and two out, Conner Crumbliss ripped a walk-off single into the right field corner, giving the RockHounds the win in "extras."

Kibbles & Bits

- Conner Crumbliss went 2-for-6 (including the game-winning hit) and is now 9-for-22 in his last five games (adding three walks, reaching base in 12-of-25 trips to the plate ... a .480 OBP). He has scored nine runs in those five games with two triples, two home runs and three RBI.

- D'Arby Myers went 3-for-5 with a run and the game-tying RBI. D'Arby has now hit in 14-of-16 games, batting .397 (127-for-68) in that time.
