
Fuentes, Valdez Lead Missions to Win

SPRINGDALE, Ark. -- Danny Duffy held the San Antonio Missions to two runs in his second major league rehab start, but the Missions pulled away for a 7-2 victory of the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in the first game of a three-game series Friday night at Arvest Ballpark. The Naturals were known as the Thunder Chickens for tonight's game.
San Antonio took the lead in the second inning as Jake Blackwood led off with a single and scored on an Eddy Rodriguez single. The Thunder Chickens tied the game in the bottom half of the inning as Matt Fields led off the inning with a double and scored on Manny Pina's tenth double of the year. Pina led the Naturals with two hits as he added a single in the fifth inning.
The Missions took the lead in the fourth with a Jeudy Valdez solo home run. Adam Buschini doubled following the home run and scored on the first of two Reymond Fuentes doubles. Fuentes' second double in the sixth scored Rico Noel to give the Missions a 4-1 lead. Fuentes went three-for-five with two doubles, a single and two RBI. Valdez also went three-for-five, knocking two singles and a home run.
Alex McClure led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk, stole second and scored on a Brett Eibner single to cut the lead to 4-2.. Eibner was thrown out by Missions catcher Eddy Rodriguez trying to advance to second.
A pair of home runs in the ninth inning gave the Missions a bit of a cushion. Kalian Sams led off with a solo blast to left, with Rodriguez hitting a two-run home run to stretch the lead to 7-2.
Jose De Paula earned his fourth win of the season. De Paula allowed two runs on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts in six innings.
Duffy was tagged with the loss, allowing two runs on five hits with one walk and five strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Sam Runion allowed one run on two hits in one-third of an inning, with Sugar Ray Marimon allowing four runs on eight hits with one walk and six strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
The Naturals will send Yordano Ventura (3-2, 2.56 ERA) to the mound tomorrow as they hope to end a six-game losing streak. Matt Andriese (6-1, 2.25 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Missions with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. Tomorrow's game can be heard on 92.1 FM.
