The Cincinnati Mighty Ducks return home for the first time since March 2 following a 10-game, 18-day road trip to face the Rochester Americans in the first of a two-game series at the Cincinnati Gardens.
The Ducks are coming off a 4-1 victory March 20 at Hamilton and have won two of their last four games. They are ninth in the Western Conference, one point behind the Hershey Bears for the eighth playoff seed and three points behind the Philadelphia Phantoms for the seventh.
Cincinnati has nine games left, including six of them at home.
The Americans downed Cleveland, 5-2, March 17 in their last outing and are 3-3-0-0 in their last six games. They are 10th in the Western Conference, three points behind Cincinnati with a game in hand.
STANDINGS: Ducks - 74 points, 2nd place, 10 PB Central Division. Americans - 71 points, 3rd place, 13 PB Central Division.
TEAM LEADERS: Ducks - Steve Brule, 19 goals, 38 assists, 57 points; Travis Brigley 21 goals and 41 points; Ryan Barnes 152 PIM. Americans - Chris Taylor 19 goals, 42 assists, 61 points; Christian Matte 19 goals and 44 points; Andrew Peters 330 PIM.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Ducks - Power play: 16.4 percent (47-for-286), 18th in AHL. Penalty killing: 85.4 percent (269-for-315), 6th. Americans - Power play: 10.2 percent (35-for-342), 27th. Penalty Killing: 82.5 percent (338-for-397), 16th.
GOALTENDERS: Ducks - Ilja Bryzgalov (19-13-4, 4 SO, 2.39 GAA); Jason Elliott (10-14-5, 1 SO, 2.73 GAA). Americans - Tom Askey (11-11-3, 1 SO, 2.63 GAA); Lance Leslie (0-0-0, 0 SO, 0.00 GAA).
SEASON SERIES: Ducks trail 1-1-2-2 (0-0-1-1 at Cincinnati). Travis Brigley scored two goals, including the game-winner with 36 seconds left in the third period to lift the Ducks to a 5-4 win February 10 at Rochester the last time the clubs met. Steve Brule added a goal and an assist for Cincinnati, while Jason Elliott made 25 saves to pick up the win.
HOME/ROAD RECORDS: Ducks - 17-9-6-2 at home; Americans 11-12-9-2 on the road.
