Midland RockHounds News Release

Okay, it wasn't midnight ... it was five minutes until midnight when the RockHounds wrapped up their fifth consecutive victory, a 5-4 win over the Hooks at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi.

A three-run blast off the bat of Logan Davidson and a little help from the Hooks pushed the 'Hounds to their fourth consecutive win in a rain-soaked series in Corpus. Friday's game was delayed for nearly an hour-and-a-half (again to be precise, 1-hour, 27-minutes) the third inning.

Joe Perez hit a solo home run in the first inning to give the Hooks a 1-0 lead and the RockHounds had two men on base when the rains came in the third. Nick Hernandez, entering in relief of Corpus Christi Cesar Rosario after the 87-minute delay, struck out Nick Allen (see "Kibbles & Bits," below) before Davidson ripped a three-run home run to right field.

Jeremy Eierman doubled in the fourth and would later score on a throwing error by Hooks reliever Korey Lee, pushing the lead to 4-1.

Fourth-inning RBI's from Scott Schreiber (double) and Ross Adolph (single) brought Corpus Christi to within a run at 4-3 and Grae Kessinger lifted a solo home run off reliever Montana DuRapau in the seventh to tie the game at 4-4.

Devin Foyle (who has now reached base in 30-of-31 games) doubled into the right field corner with one out in the eighth. A wild pitch by Brett Daniels sent Foyle to third and, from there, Eierman's chopper to third base brought home what would be the game-winning run.

Austin Briggs gave up a leadoff walk in the eighth but got out of the mini-jam and Aaron Brown earned his second save in as many nights (and his seventh of the season in as many chances). Brown has not allowed an earned run in his last nine appearances.

Things did get "dicey" as the clock approached the bewitching hour. Brown walked Kessinger with one out and his throwing error (on a pick-off attempt) put the tying run in scoring position. Mickey McDonald then came to the rescue with an absolutely brilliant, diving catch on Pedro Leon's sinking line drive to center field.

Kibbles & Bits

"All good things must come to an end;" so says the time-honored phrase. The "good thing" in this case is Nick Allen's 22-game on-base streak, which was halted on a tough night at the dish for the US Olympic Team shortstop - - Nick went 0-for-4 with all four at-bats ending in a strikeout. Adding insult to injury (we just max'd out our "sage wisdom and catchy phrase" limit), he was on deck when the game ended.

The 22-gamer may be over, but what a streak it was - - Nick hit just under ,400 over the 22 games (33-91, .393), moving into second in the Double-A Central batting race with a .322 average.
