The RockHounds pulled two games ahead in the standings, defeating Frisco 5-2 on Monday

Frisco collected just five hits as Midland salvaged the series, defeating the ‘Riders 5-2 on Monday to avoid the sweep. Frisco starter Martin Perez (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing three runs, but only one was earned. Andruw Jones was 1-for-4 with a single in his rehab start for the RoughRiders.

The RoughRiders scored a run in each of the first two innings when Chad Tracy walked and scored on an error in the first inning and Steve Murphy scored on an RBI single by Jonathan Greene in the second frame. The RockHounds answered with three runs in the fourth inning highlighted by a two-run single by Matt Sulentic to take the 3-2 lead. Midland added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings to go on for the 5-2 win.

Perez allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits over 3.1 innings, striking out two and walking two. Clayton Hamilton and Corey Young each gave up a run in relief for Frisco. Midland starter Travis Banwart (10-5) allowed two runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out six and walking one. Jared Lansford earned his team-leading 12th save on the season.

The Frisco offense collected five hits, two by Dustin Majewski, including a double - the only extra-base hit for the RoughRiders. Jonathan Greene produced the only RBI for Frisco as the RoughRiders were only 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

Frisco is now 2.0 games behind Midland in the South Division standings with seven games remaining on the season.
