August 31, 2009 - Texas League (TL1)
Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - Hooks outfielder Drew Locke and shortstop Wladimir Sutil have been named to the 2009 Texas League Post-Season All-Star Team, league president Tom Kayser announced Monday.
Locke, playing in his first year at the AA level, leads the circuit in batting average (.338), RBIs (109) and hits (170). He ranks within the top five in homers (20, T-4th), doubles (31, 5th), slugging percentage (.531, 2nd), extra-base hits (54, 3rd) and runs scored (81, 3rd).
Selected by the Astros in the minor-league phase of last season's Rule V Draft, Locke was named Corpus Christi's offensive player of the month for April, May and July. He holds the franchise single-season record in RBIs and is tied for third in home runs, eight off the pace of Hunter Pence's 2006 campaign. Locke is three shy of Josh Anderson's 173 hits, also set during the Hooks' championship season.
Locke's overall average has risen 30 points since the all-star break. He features a .404 clip with runners in scoring position and is batting .446 with runners in scoring position and two outs.
Sutil is hitting .281 with 21 doubles, a homer, 36 RBIs and a club-leading 17 stolen bases in 117 games this season. The Venezuelan native, who's turned in a number of sparkling defensive plays this season, features a .956 fielding percentage, committing 25 errors in 568 total chances. He's had a hand in 92 double plays, tops among Texas League middle infielders.
