POST-SEASON ALL-STARS NAMED

Texas League President Tom Kayser announced the 2009 Texas League Post-Season All-Star Team on Monday, with four Redbirds receiving end-of-year honors.

Right-handed starters Trey Hearne and Lance Lynn, along with outfielder Tyler Henley and second baseman Daniel Descalso were the four Cards' players named to the team.

Hearne, recently back to Springfield after a successful four-game stint at Triple-A Memphis, has dominated the circuit this year, posting an 11-3 mark with the fourth-best ERA in the league, of 3.01.

Lynn has challenged Hearne for the staff ace honors this year, with a record of 11-4 and an ERA of 2.92, second in the league.

Outfielder Tyler Henley has enjoyed a break-out season, posting career bests with an average of .307 (fifth in the league), 13 homers and 63 RBIs (tops on the team).

Second baseman Daniel Descalso, who was called up to Triple-A Memphis in July, was challenging for the Player of the Year Award, prior to his promotion. Descalso batted .323 with eight home runs and 51 RBIs in 73 games, before getting the call-up.

The Cardinals and Arkansas Travelers tied for the most All-Star spots, as each club had four.

Midland's Chris Carter, who was promoted to Triple-A Sacramento last week, was named the Texas League Players of the Year. Carter batted .337 (second in the league) with 24 homers (second in the league) and 101 RBIs (third in the league) and ranks in the top five in nearly all offensive categories.

Tulsa's Samuel Deduno was named Texas League Pitcher of the Year, posting a 12-4 mark with a league-best ERA of 2.69. His 116 strikeouts is second in the league.

Midland Manager Darren Bush was named Manager of the Year, while Arkansas Pitching Coach Ken Patterson will take home the "Mike Coolbaugh Texas League Coach of the Year" Award.
