June 2, 2006 - Texas League (TL1)
Arkansas Travelers News Release

Ray Winder Field, Little Rock, AR - Jed Morris and Kevin Melillo each knocked in four runs and the Midland RockHounds (31-24) belted three home runs in a 9-1 victory over the Arkansas Travelers (17-37). Matt Allegra (5) also cracked a solo home run and RHP Brad Ziegler (5-2) limited the Travs to four base hits and one run while whiffing seven and walking only one batter in seven innings. The Travs tallied their only run when SS Brandon Wood (11) hit possibly the longest home run in the six-year affiliation between the Angels and Travs. In losing for the seventh straight game, the Travs dropped to 20 games under .500 and have lost 13 of 14 home games. Arkansas starter RHP Jesse Smith (3-6) lost his fifth straight start, but pitched well before allowing Morris' grand slam (6) in the sixth inning.

Allegra got the Hounds a lead with a two-out solo home run in the second inning.

Ziegler set down 17 of the first 20 batters he faced and no Arkansas runner reached second base until the seventh.

Smith had allowed just one run on five hits heading into the sixth, but the Hounds rallied in the sixth inning. Brant Colamarino banged a single off first base and advanced to second base on a single by Brian Stavisky. Allegra loaded the bases with a sharp single to left field and Smith forced in a run with a walk to Melillo. After the second out, Morris ripped a grand slam to right field for a 6-0 Midland lead.

Leading off the seventh inning, Wood smashed a towering fly ball that sailed way over the left-field scoreboard on to the roof of Ricks' National Guard Armory easily traveling 450 feet for the lone Travs run.

Arkansas reliever RHP Michel Simard allowed two walks and a three-run homer by Melillo (4) in the ninth to cap the scoring.

Time of game was 2:42 and the paid attendance was 4,168.

NOTES: RHP James Holcomb (0-4, 4.08 ERA) has been placed on the disabled list with a sore lower back and RHP Nick Green (5-3, 4.15 ERA) was called up from Rancho Cucamonga to take Holcomb's spot in the rotation...Before the game Bad Boy Brian defeated L'il Kato in a best-of-three falls match for the World Midget Wrestling Championship. Kato has promised revenge when Midget Wrestling returns to Little Rock in 2007 at the Travs' new home, Dickey-Stephens Park.

The Travs will send Green to the hill for his Class AA debut on Saturday night while Midland counters with RHP David Bradley (3-4, 3.67 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. and the gates open at 6:10 p.m.
