(CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas) - The Tulsa Drillers topped the Hooks Friday night at Whataburger Field 11-4, with the win the Drillers are 5-0 against the Hooks this season. Corpus Christi remains in first place in the Texas League South, a half game over Midland.
The Hooks put up three runs in the second inning to take an early lead. J.R. House extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a lead off triple. Jorge Cortes and Jonny Ash followed up with back-to-back doubles to give the Hooks a 2-0 lead. Mark Saccomanno, who was activated before the game, drove in Ash on a single into right field, Saccomanno finished the night 2 for 4.
Tulsa struck back in the third with three runs of their own. Four hits combined for the Drillers' three runs off Hooks' starter Josh Miller. Tulsa didn't stop there as they added two more runs in the fourth on a Joe Koshansky two-run homer to left field.
The Hooks took advantage of a Troy Tulowitzki error in the sixth adding a run to come within a runs. The Drillers got the run back in the sixth to stay on top by two runs.
The Drillers unleashed five runs on five hits in the ninth off David Rollandini to give them an 11-4 lead. As a team, the Drillers combined to hit for the cycle with four extra base hits including Tulowitzki's two-run homer. In the win, every position player in the Drillers' line-up connected for a hit.
Miller (6-5) worked six innings while giving up six runs (two earned) on seven hits in the loss. Drillers' starter Marc Kaiser (4-4) also tossed six innings to earn the victory.
Game two of the series is set for Saturday night at Whataburger Field with a 7:05 start. RHP Juan Gutierrez (5-2, 3.69) will get the start for the Hooks as he'll face Drillers' RHP Ubaldo Jimenez (5-2, 3.61). Fans at the ball park will be entertained by the Blues' Brothers presented by AT&T, Inc.
