Michalek recalled by Wild

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Minnesota Wild General Manager Doug Risebrough announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled D Zbynek Michalek (pronounced ZBIGH-nehk, mih-KHAL-ihk) from the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL), the team's primary development affiliate. In addition, the team also announced that C Wes Walz has been placed on injured reserve due to a sprained right shoulder suffered January 5 at St. Louis.

Michalek, 21 (12/23/82), has recorded ten points (3-7=10), two power play goals and 12 penalty minutes in 37 games with Houston this year. This is the second time he has been recalled by the Wild this year. Michalek did not appear in a game after being recalled by the Wild on January 2. The 6-foot-2, 199-pound defenseman collected 14 points (4-10=14) and 26 penalty minutes in his first professional season with Houston last year ranking third on the team with a +16 rating. Michalek tallied 90 points (26-64=90) and 106 penalty minutes in 137 games during two seasons (2000-02) with Shawinigan of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).

The Jindrchuv Hradec, Czech Republic-native was signed as a free agent by Minnesota on September 29, 2001. He will wear jersey number 6.
