Aeros welcome The Rocket Friday night

January 15, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Houston Aeros News Release

Houston, TX – The American Hockey League's Houston Aeros will have future Hall of Famer and the newest Houston Astro Roger Clemens on hand Friday night to drop the ceremonial puck before the team's 7 p.m. game against the arch-rival San Antonio Rampage. Due to a large crowd expected with the appearance, combined with it being Boy Scout Night and Thunderstick Night, the Aeros are encouraging fans to ARRIVE EARLY. The Toyota Center Will Call window will be available at 12 p.m. Friday to accommodate fans who'd like to pick up their tickets during the day.

Clemens, who inked a one-year pact with the Astros on Monday, is baseball's lone six-time Cy Young Award winner, and he's a nine-time All-Star. The 41-year-old just wrapped up 20th major league season with a 310-160 mark with Boston, Toronto and the New York Yankees. Clemens is also the second to the last pitcher to win baseball's Most Valuable Player award, accomplishing the feat in 1986 with Boston, when he went 24-4 with a 2.48 ERA. Clemens' 4,099 strikeouts trail only Texan Nolan Ryan (5,714) and Steve Carlton (4,136) all-time. Clemens also owns a pair of World Series rings – both with New York – in 1999 and 2000.

Fifty lucky fans will be selected at random to get an autograph from Clemens during the second intermission. Also, the Aeros will be selling a limited number (200) of Valentine's Day cards featuring several players and mascot Chilly. The cards, in sets of 12, will be on sale at merchandise stands for just $8.

Following Friday's game, the Aeros hit the road for four games before returning home Saturday, Jan. 24, versus Syracuse. That night is Johan Holmqvist Bobblehead Night, sponsored by Memorial Hermann Hospital. The first 3,000 fans will receive a bobblehead.
