Pensacola Blue Wahoos News Release

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Minnesota Twins announced today that Michael Thomas has been named hitting coach of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, replacing Steve Singleton, who has accepted a coaching position at the University of Texas.

Thomas, who was serving as the hitting coach for the Twins Gulf Coast League affiliate in Fort Myers, played collegiately at Kentucky. After hitting .315 as a senior in 2014, he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 22nd round and played professionally for two seasons. After retiring as a player, he coached at Kentucky and Virginia Tech before joining the Minnesota Twins organization. He will join the team on Sunday.

A member of the Minnesota Twins organization for six seasons as a player, Singleton was the hitting coach for the Fort Myers Miracle in 2017 and 2018, helping lead them to the playoffs each season. Under Singleton's tutelage, the Blue Wahoos were second in the Southern League in home runs this season and averaged over four runs per game in 2019.
