Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (6-3, 35-44) defeated the Montgomery Biscuits (4-5, 48-31) by a 6-3 score in the fourth game of the five-game series at Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium on Friday night.
Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Edward Cabrera (1-0) earned the victory as the Miami Marlins No. 8 prospect made his Double-A debut. In his six innings he allowed three runs (all earned) on six hits with two homers allowed, two walks, and four strikeouts. Montgomery right-handed starting pitcher Jhonleider Salnias (0-1) took the loss, opening the game for the Biscuits as he allowed three runs (all earned) on five hits with no walks and a strikeout. Jacksonville left-handed relief pitcher Dylan Lee earned his ninth save of the season with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.
After a scoreless first inning, Jacksonville started the top of the second with four straight hits which eventually led to a 3-0 lead. Santiago Chavez started the scoring with his RBI single, then that was followed by an RBI groundout by Anfernee Seymour to put the lead at 2-0. Brian Miller capped the rally with a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Stone Garrett from third to put Jacksonville's lead to 3-0. The Biscuits quickly responded with a solo home run by Kevin Padlo in the bottom of the second to make it a 3-1 game. The Shrimp quickly got that run back in the top of the third, as Billy Fleming delivered a sacrifice fly put Jacksonville's lead at 4-1. Joe Dunand added a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth to grow Jacksonville's lead to 5-1.
Padlo homered again off Cabrera in the bottom of the sixth, a two-run shot, to cut Jacksonville's lead to 5-3. Jacksonville scored its final run in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Gabriel Guerrero to put the score at 6-3, which would be the final.
Montgomery left-handed pitcher Kenny Rosenberg pitched seven innings after Salians opened the game, allowing three runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Jacksonville right-handed relief pitcher Kolton Mahoney worked two scoreless innings to set up Lee's save, and the Shrimp bullpen has only allowed one run in 14 innings of work this series.
The Jumbo Shrimp and Biscuits will finish their series with the fifth game of the five-game set on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. eastern. Right-handed pitcher Cody Poteet (5-3, 2.25 ERA) will start for Jacksonville against Montgomery right-handed starting pitcher Sam McWilliams (5-3, 2.35).
