Mississippi No-Hits Jackson in 2-0 Shutout
June 28, 2019 - Southern League (SL1)
Jackson Generals News Release
Pearl, Miss. - The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of Major League Baseball's Arizona Diamondbacks, failed to secure a base hit against Mississippi's Ian Anderson and Jeremy Walker on Friday, falling 2-0 at Trustmark Park. The Braves' combined no-hitter marks the first time that an opposing pitching staff has not allowed a hit to Jackson (42-37) as an Arizona affiliate, with the win giving Mississippi (39-39) the series victory.
Bo Takahashi (5-4, 3.18 ERA) actually lowered his ERA by a hundredth of a run on Friday, tossing six innings while allowing a pair of runs on five hits. Mississippi's Cristian Pache was the damage-doer, driving in a run in the third with a double and hitting a solo homer in the fifth to add some padding. Miguel Aguilar and Damien Magnifico both pitched scoreless innings of relief, but with Jackson unable to score, their efforts were overshadowed by Mississippi's staff.
Ian Anderson (6-5, 2.94 ERA) started for Mississippi, and despite walking the second batter he faced on four pitches, he controlled the tenor of the game for the next seven innings. Anderson fell into three-ball counts only three times after the first inning, never allowing more than one man on base at a time. The game had its obstacles: Anderson weathered infield errors in the second and seventh innings, walked a man in the fifth, and hit another batter with a pitch in the sixth en route to keeping the no-hitter intact. Once Jeremy Walker (S, 6) took the ball in the eighth, the finish line came into focus. Between the two of them, Anderson and Walker struck out 16 batters --- including a career-high 14 for Anderson --- and did not allow an airborne batted ball in fair territory after the third inning. The no-hitter is the third in franchise history for Mississippi.
