ROUND ROCK, Texas - Round Rock Express LHP Michael Roth was named the Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 20-26 the Pacific Coast League announced Monday. He threw a two-hit, complete game shutout Sunday night against Colorado Springs on just 102 total pitches. Roth is the first Express player to receive the weekly honor this season. Catcher Austin Hedges of the El Paso Chihuahuas was named the player of the week.
Roth, 26, has spent the entire 2016 season with the Express after the Texas Rangers signed him to a minor league deal in February. He started the season out of the bullpen, compiling a 1-0 record with a 1.86 ERA (9.2ip/2er) in five relief appearances. Since being added to the starting rotation in May, the left-hander has gone 6-3 with a 2.76 ERA (71.2ip/22er) in 12 starts.
The South Carolina native currently leads the PCL with a 2.66 overall ERA (81.1ip/24er). His opponent batting average (.223) and WHIP (1.06) are second in the league. Roth leads the Express in innings pitched (81.1) and his 12 starts are second-most behind current Ranger Chi Chi Gonzalez. His complete-game was the first for an Express pitcher this season and his first since July 9, 2015 when he was a member of the Triple-A Columbus Clippers.
The Express continue a ten-game, eight-day homestand tonight at 7:05 p.m. against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Milwaukee Brewers affiliate). Fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs and sodas presented by Mrs Bairds.
