
Grizzlies defeat Rainiers 8-4 Sunday night

The Fresno Grizzlies defeated the Tacoma Rainiers 8-4 Sunday night at Chukchansi Park. Fresno knocked 12 hits in the win, including three for extra-bases. Four Grizzlies had two-hits and seven starters scored a run.
The Grizzlies' offense exploded for a five-run bottom of the second when Jon Kemmer (2-for-4) smoked a RBI single to center, scoring Matt Duffy. Then, Jack Mayfield knocked in Jon Singleton with a sacrifice-fly to right. Andrew Aplin (2-for-5) continued the scoring by lacing a two-run double to left-center. Finally, Colin Moran added a RBI single to left and Fresno led 5-0.
The lead extended to 6-0 for Fresno in the bottom of the third when Kemmer smashed his second RBI single to center, scoring Preston Tucker (2-for-4).
The Rainiers cut the deficit to 6-2 in the top of the fourth. Patrick Kivlehan blasted a home run to left-center. Then, Dario Pizzano stroked a RBI double to center, scoring Zach Shank (2-for-4).
The Grizzlies stretched their lead to 7-2 in the bottom of the fifth when Tyler White (2-for-5) skied a solo home run to left.
Tacoma starter Brad Mills (3-3) suffered the loss after throwing four innings, allowing seven runs (earned), on nine hits, walking three and striking out three.
Fresno starter Tommy Shirley (6-4) earned the win after hurling five innings, allowing two runs (earned), on seven hits, walking two and striking out three.
The Rainiers scored two runs in the top of the seventh when Mike Zunino (2-for-4) smacked a two-run single to left. At the stretch, it was 7-4 Fresno.
Mayfield added his second RBI in the bottom of the seventh when he singled to center, scoring Chan Jong Moon. The Grizzlies led 8-4 after seven innings.
Grizzlies' reliever Brendan McCurry tossed two scoreless frames, striking out one. Since his promotion to Triple-A, he has not allowed a run in five and two-third innings. Josh Fields also threw a scoreless ninth, securing a Fresno win.
Game three of the four-game set will be played Monday night from Downtown Fresno. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PT. Tacoma RHP Joe Wieland (6-4, 7.18) will battle Fresno RHP Brad Peacock (2-3, 4.59).
