Dodgers and I-Cubs Split Doubleheader

Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Dodgers and Iowa Cubs split a Monday doubleheader at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark with the Dodgers winning the first game, 10-9, in nine innings and Iowa winning the second game, 3-2, in eight innings.

Both games of the doubleheader were scheduled to last seven innings, but both extended into extra innings in front of a crowd of 5,198.

Micah Johnson hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning of the first game for a 10-9 Oklahoma City win and the Dodgers' first walk-off victory of 2016.

In the second game, a sacrifice fly by Munenori Kawasaki in the top of the eighth inning gave Iowa a 3-2 lead and ended up bringing home the eventual winning run.

In the first game, the Dodgers built a five-run lead before the I-Cubs scored six runs over the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game and force extra innings.

Oklahoma City scored the day's first runs when O'Koyea Dickson homered in a second straight game, belting a three-run shot just past the fence in right-center field for a 3-0 Dodgers lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Daniel Vogelbach doubled to lead off the second inning and scored on a RBI single by Logan Watkins to cut Oklahoma City's lead to 3-1.

Trevor Oaks and Micah Johnson drew back-to-back walks with one out to put runners at first and second base for Charlie Culberson, who brought home both with a RBI double down the left-field line for a 5-1 Dodgers lead.

Tommy La Stella, who joined Iowa on a rehab assignment from the Chicago Cubs Monday, smashed a two-run homer into the upper deck of right field to cut Oklahoma City's lead to 5-3 in the top of the third inning.

The Dodgers added a run in the fourth inning when Micah Johnson grounded into a double play for a 6-3 lead. A RBI double by Zach Walters down the left-field line pushed the Dodgers ahead, 7-3, in the fifth inning. A sac fly from Shawn Zarraga later in the inning gave Oklahoma City an 8-3 lead.

The I-Cubs came charging back in the sixth inning. Iowa's Matt Murton led off with a double before Daniel Vogelbach followed with a two-run homer into the Dodgers bullpen in left-center field. Juan Perez then followed with a solo homer into the Iowa bullpen in right-center field to cut Oklahoma City lead down to 8-6.

Oklahoma City got a run back in the bottom of the sixth when Rob Segedin doubled with one out before Corey Brown hit a RBI triple to center field for a 9-6 lead.

Iowa tied the game in the seventh inning. With the bases loaded, Iowa's Vogelbach stepped up to the plate with one out. Dodgers pitcher Matt West threw a wild pitch that allowed John Andreoli to score from third base and cut Oklahoma City's lead to 9-7. Vogelbach then hit a two-run double into right field to knot the game, 9-9, and send the scheduled seven-inning game into extra innings.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the ninth inning. Dodger Daniel Fields led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a triple. Iowa pitcher Starling Peralta then intentionally walked the next two batters to load the bases for Johnson.

Johnson then hit a grounder into right field for the game-winning single that scored Fields for the game one victory.

Oklahoma City racked up a season-high eight extra-base hits in the game with five doubles, two triples and a home run.

Mike Bolsinger (1-0) pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit and one walk for the win. Peralta (0-2) was charged with the loss for Iowa.

In the second game, the Dodgers once again took the early lead.

Segedin led off the bottom of the second inning with his team-leading seventh triple of the season and scored on a one-out RBI single to left field by Alex Hassan.

Iowa took the lead in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run homer by Mark Zagunis for a 2-1 advantage.

Fields hit a one-out double in the bottom of the seventh inning. Jack Murphy then drew a walk to put runners at first and second base for Dickson, who hit a sharp RBI single into left field to score Fields and tie the game, 2-2.

The second game also extended beyond the scheduled seven innings.

Iowa then loaded the bases in the top of the eighth inning with one out for Munenori Kawasaki who hit a sacrifice fly to left field to give Iowa a 3-2 advantage. A broken-bat infield single by Jeimer Candelario loaded the bases again for the I-Cubs, but Oklahoma City pitcher Jacob Rhame struck out Juan Perez for the final out.

Oklahoma City's James Ramsey collected a two-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning, but Hassan struck out to end the game.

Rhame (0-4) was charged with the loss, allowing one run and two hits in the eighth inning.

Iowa starting pitcher and former Oklahoma City RedHawk Jake Buchanan (7-4) got the win for the I-Cubs, allowing two runs and nine hits over 7.0 innings with one walk and eight strikeouts. Corey Black recorded his second save of the season for Iowa.

The five-game series is tied, 2-2, and concludes Tuesday morning with an 11:05 a.m. game at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
