Michael Lang Named American Association's Player of the Week

DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Sioux City Explorers OF Michael Lang (pictured) has been named this week's Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending July 5.

Lang was 14-for-30 at the plate this week, collecting a double, three triples and seven RBI and helping Sioux City go 6-1 over the week.

The former Rutgers University player began his week with a 2-for-5 game on Monday at the Winnipeg Goldeyes. In an 11-3 win, he added an RBI, a walk and two runs scored. The next night, Lang went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk in a 9-6 win in Winnipeg. On Canada Day, the American visitors played spoiler with a 14-0 romp over the Goldeyes. Lang was 3-for-5 with a triple, an RBI, a walk and two runs scored in the game for Sioux City. The Explorers dropped their only game on the week on Thursday, when Lang was 1-for-2 with a walk in a 13-2 loss in Winnipeg.

Sioux City returned home and quickly returned to its winning ways. On Friday, Lang turned in a 2-for-6 game with a double, two RBI and a run scored in a 12-1 win over the Sioux Falls Canaries at Lewis and Clark Park. Lang's lone hitless game on the week came on the Fourth of July, but the Explorers still won 6-1. Sioux City completed the sweep behind a 4-for-5 night from Lang on Sunday night. He notched two triples, an RBI and two runs scored in a 6-4 win.

On the season, Lang is now hitting .350 (62-for-177) with 10 doubles, five triples and two home runs. The Dumont, N.J. resident has driven in 31 runs on the year.

This is Lang's third season with Sioux City. He played in 34 games with the club in 2012 and hit an impressive .405. In 2014, he batted .295 over 79 games with 15 doubles, two triples and 18 RBI. Lang spent part of 2012 and 2013 with the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, appearing in both short-season and full-season Class A.
