Winston-Salem Dash News Release

Winston-Salem, NC - Potomac starting pitcher Brad Meyers was dominant on the mound as he guided the Nationals to a 6-2 win over Winston-Salem on Monday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Meyers (7-4) tossed seven shutout innings and limited the Dash to five hits with five strikeouts to collect the win. He did not allow a walk and retired the last 14 batters he faced to lower his ERA to 1.53.

Potomac broke open a scoreless game with five runs off Levi Maxwell in the top of the fourth inning. Danny Espinosa and Michael Burgess connected on back-to-back doubles to score a run. Chris Marrero followed with a two-run home run to put the Nationals in front 3-0. It was Marrero's third round-tripper in the past two games. One out later, Stephen King singled and Brian Peacock doubled to put runners on second and third. Next, Dan Nelson hit a fly ball that was dropped by right fielder Salvador Sanchez. The error allowed both runners to cross the plate to give Potomac a 5-0 lead.

The Nationals added a run in the top of the seventh inning when Michael Burgess hit a solo shot off Dash reliever Sergio Santos. The Dash offense finally came alive in the bottom of the eighth inning when shortstop Greg Paiml walked with one out and first baseman Jimmy Gallagher smacked a two-run home run off Martin Beno to trim the deficit to 6-2.

Maxwell (2-9) surrendered five runs (three earned) on eight hits in four innings to suffer the loss.

These two teams continue their four-game series with game three on Tuesday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The Dash will send RHP Johnnie Lowe (5-2, 3.92) to the mound, while the Nationals will counter with LHP Will Atwood (3-5, 4.90). The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
