
Meyers added to Potomac rotation

WOODBRIDGE, Va.- Brad Meyers, the Washington Nationals fifth round selection and the 160th overall pick in this June's First-Year Player Draft has been promoted to the Potomac Nationals from Low-A Hagerstown and will make his Carolina League debut tonight against the Kinston Indians at Grainger Stadium in Kinston, N.C. Meyers joins left-hander Ross Detwiler as the second player taken in the 2007 draft to reach the Advanced-A level with Potomac.
While in Hagerstown, the 21-year-old compiled a 1-1 record with an ERA of 0.44. In four starts with Suns, the six-foot-six, right-hander allowed just four runs, one earned, on 13 hits. He struck out nine and walked eight in 20 2/3 innings. South Atlantic League batters had just a .178 average against him.
The Los Angeles, Calif., native began with month of July with the Nationals' Rookie-level Gulf Coast League affiliate and did not allow a run in three starts before making his debut in Hagerstown on July 31. He gave up just two hits in nine innings in the GCL, striking out nine and walking none.
Meyers was drafted out of Loyola Marymount University where he went 4-4 with a 3.45 ERA in 16 appearances, 15 starts, as a junior this past season. He was named Second-Team All-West Coast Conference in 2006 and 2007. Meyers was originally selected out of high school in 14th round of the of the 2004 draft by the New York Mets.
The Potomac Nationals had been carrying just 24 active players prior to Meyers' addition. The roster is now full at 25 with 13 pitchers and 12 position players.
