Frederick, MD-The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, won the regularly scheduled game at Harry Grove Stadium Wednesday night 8-2 against the homestanding Keys but fell in the earlier suspended game 6-5 in 12 innings. In game two, the Avs (30-28) batted around in the third inning against the Keys (25-31).

The opening game began with a runner on and one out for the Keys in the home half of the ninth inning. Frederick could not score in that frame and neither team did until the home half of the 12th. Kennard Jones opened the inning with a single against Raymar Diaz, Jones's fourth hit of the game. After Diaz balked, Chris Amador sacrificed Jones to third. The Avalanche intentionally walked the next two batters to load the bases for Brent Krause who launched a ball over left-fielder Cesar Quintero for the winning hit. Carlos Perez earned the victory with three scoreless relief innings.

In game two, the Avs trailed 1-0 as the third inning began. Jose Lopez opened the frame with a four-pitch walk against Chorye Spoone. Then, Billy Hart singled to left. After Wladimir Sutil sacrificed himself to move the runners up a base each, Tim Torres yanked a double down the right field line for a 2-1 lead. After Mitch Einertson walked, Mark Ori volleyed a double of his own for a 3-1 edge. Next, Pat Osborn's RBI groundout pushed the lead to 4-1 and Ryan Reed's RBI single swelled the lead to five.

Salem scored its final three runs against the Key bullpen in the seventh and eighth. Mitch Einertson and Billy Hart each cracked solo home runs and Orlando Rosales chipped an RBI single in for the Avs.

Salamida earned the victory after throwing five innings and two-thirds. It was his first win since July 8th at Frederick.

Salem and Frederick close the series Thursday at 7:00 when righty Sean Walker faces Carolina League strikeout leader David Hernandez.
