Mets rally for 4-3 win over Fisher Cats

Manchester, NH- Ruben Tejada (2-for-5, 2B, 3 RBI) hit a bases-loaded double with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, driving in three runs, and the Binghamton Mets rallied for a 4-3 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats before 5,062 on Sunday afternoon at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.

Binghamton starter Mike Antonini (3-0) allowed three runs on six hits over six innings to pick up the win. He walked two and struck out two. Tim McNab, Edgar Alfonzo, John Madden and Roy Merritt pitched scoreless relief for the Mets with Merritt earning his Eastern League-leading eighth save.

Binghamton (9-6) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Shawn Bowman drilled a solo home run off New Hampshire starter Luis Perez. It was the first home run allowed by a Fisher Cats pitcher in 116.1 innings, dating back to April 11. Perez left after five innings, allowing one earned run on three hits. He walked one and struck out five.

New Hampshire (11-6) tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Chris Gutierrez (2-for-4) singled and advanced on a bunt single by Jonathan Diaz. Both runners advanced on Brad Emaus' infield fly. Gutierrez scored on a sacrifice fly by Luis Sanchez.

The Fisher Cats went ahead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Nick Gorneault walked and scored on a two-out, two-run home run by CF Adam Calderone (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI).

The Mets loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the seventh inning against losing pitcher Celson Polanco (0-1). Shawn Bowman was hit by a pitch, Carl Loadenthal (3-for-4) singled and Matt Bouchard walked. After Polanco struck out Matt Bouchard and Emmanuel Garcia, Tejada doubled all three runners in to put the Mets up for good.

The teams split the four-game series. They will play another series in Binghamton starting next Friday night.

After a scheduled off day on Monday, the homestand continues Tuesday night at 6:35pm against the New Britain Rock Cats (Minnesota AA). Tuesday is Manchester/Concord Day with three-dollar tickets for residents of either city presented by WGIR/Rock 101. It's also Music Appreciation Night and a Celebration of Education. The Fisher Cats will also guarantee the weather. If the game time temperature for any of the remaining games of the homestand is below 70 degrees, fans will be able to redeem their ticket stubs for any future Sunday-Wednesday game (except Sea Dogs games) during the 2009 season.
