St. Lucie Mets News Release
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (July 19, 2015) - The St. Lucie Mets held on to beat the Charlotte Stone Crabs 4-3 in a tight ballgame on Sunday at Charlotte Sports Park.
The Stone Crabs stranded the tying run in scoring position in their last four innings. In the ninth they had runners on second and third with one out but Jeff Walters settled down to get a pop out in foul ground, and Braxton Lee lined out to shallow left-center field to end the game. Walters got his second save.
In the eighth, the first two Stone Crabs reached on a single and a walk against Mike Hepple. However, Hepple struck out back-to-back batters and got Mike Marjama to ground into a fielder's choice to end the threat.
In the sixth and seventh, starting pitcher Logan Taylor pitched around a runner at second base by getting a strikeout and ground out, respectively.
The Mets trailed 3-2 entering the sixth but scored two runs to take the lead. Stefan Sabol led off with a single and Phil Evans followed with an RBI double to tie it. Later with two outs, Jeff McNeil singled to right to bring home Evans and put the Mets up for good, 4-3.
McNeil went 3 for 5. He scored the first two runs for the Mets.
Sabol also had three hits. He scored once and drove in a run.
Taylor only allowed four hits and one earned run in seven strong innings. He struck out seven. He won his second consecutive start.
The Stone Crabs scored all three of their runs with two outs in the fourth to take a brief 3-2 lead. Kean Wong singled home Willy Adames and Max Tissenbaum hit a two-out, two-run single to put the Crabs up by one.
The victory snapped a three game losing streak for the Mets.
