PASSBACK: This weekend will be the U.S. Soccer Foundation Passback weekend at Giants Stadium. The U.S. Soccer Foundation, the major charitable arm of soccer in the United States, and Major League Soccer's (MLS) Charity of Choice, has issued the 2005 Challenge to all 12 MLS teams, in partnership with Eurosport. This year's challenge calls for the collection of 10,000+ pieces of new or gently-used soccer equipment and uniforms, which will then be distributed in each of the MLS team's local communities, going to teams, clubs, and individuals who are in need of assistance with uniforms, shoes, and other equipment.
With the 2005 MLS season now underway, teams are encouraging fans to clean out closets, basements and garages, and collect soccer equipment and clothing that is still in good condition. Local teams, clubs and leagues are encouraged to donate the items at their local MLS teams' stadium.
Eurosport, the Foundation's Supporter for Soccer Equipment and Uniforms, provides a $200 gift certificate to shop through their catalogue to the individual or group contributing the largest donation. Special drawings take place at each Passback event for soccer fans to win special memorabilia from their local MLS team. In addition, many of the teams offer discounts for future matches.
Metro soccer report: MSG will air the Metro Soccer Report this week on Thursday at 10:30 p.m. ET. The show will also re-run three more times (on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. ET and on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. ET).
