Mercury Announce Preseason Dates

Phoenix, Ariz. - The Phoenix Mercury announced today the 2004 preseason schedule, featuring two games inside America West Arena. The Mercury will tip-off the 2004 preseason on Saturday, May 8 when they host the Seattle Storm at 7:00 p.m. The Mercury will return to the hardwood Monday, May 10 hosting the Sacramento Monarchs at 7 p.m. Phoenix will round out the preseason when they travel to Seattle to face the Storm on Tuesday, May 18 inside Key Arena.

The Mercury will open the 17-game regular season on Thursday, May 20 at 7:00 p.m. against the Sacramento Monarchs at America West.

The WNBA will tip off its eighth season Thursday, May 20 with three Western Conference games featuring the Mercury vs. Sacramento, San Antonio vs. Houston and Seattle vs. Minnesota.

Featuring a 34-game regular season schedule in 2004, the Mercury will face each Eastern Conference opponent twice, three meetings apiece with Sacramento and Houston and will see Los Angeles, Minnesota, San Antonio and Seattle four times.

Highlighting the '04 schedule, the Mercury will host two weekday afternoon games, with a direct focus on local summer camps. On Wednesday, June 9 the Mercury will host the Connecticut Sun in a Noon contest and then host the San Antonio Silver Stars at Noon on Wednesday, July 21. With 17 home games on the schedule, ten of those games will be held on the weekend.

August 1 will mark the Mercury's last game before the WNBA breaks for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. Olympic players will report to their respective countries for team training prior to the opening of The Games on August 13. The Mercury will begin the final stretch of the season when they return to the hardwood on Wednesday, September 1 at Detroit. The regular season will conclude on Sunday, September 19 when Phoenix will host the Houston Comets at America West Arena.
