Last Time Out: The Memphis Redbirds defeated the Louisville Bats 4-1 on Friday night, extending their franchise record winning streak to 13 games. Zack Thompson gave the 'Birds an excellent start, tossing six scoreless innings with five strikeouts. He was followed by Grant Black who pitched two spotless frames out of the bullpen. The Redbirds offense was generated in the fourth inning on a three-run home run from Juan Yepez. Dennis Ortega drove in an insurance run with a double in the ninth inning.

Memphis Starter: Miles Mikolas will be making an MLB rehab start for the Redbirds this evening. Mikolas has been on the 60-day Injured List since May 29 due to right forearm tightness. His only start with St. Louis in 2021 came on May 22 against the Chicago Cubs when he allowed just one run in four innings but had to leave early due to injury. The 32-year-old made three rehab starts with Memphis in May and yielded five earned runs in 12.1 innings. Mikolas missed all of 2020 due to surgery to repair a flexor tendon in his right arm. Mikolas was a National League All-Star in 2018 and was the Cardinals' game one starter in the 2019 NLDS and NLCS.

Louisville Starter: Michael Mariot will make his eighth start of the season for Louisville tonight. Mariot has been excellent for the Bats this season, posting a 2.61 ERA thus far. Mariot pitched twice last week against Nashville and allowed just two earned runs in 12 innings, striking out 12. The 32-year-old pitched against Memphis on July 6 and yielded just one run in five innings. Mariot signed with Cincinnati on a minor league contract on June 9. He had been pitching in independent leagues since 2018. Mariot has made 44 MLB appearances in his career with the Royals and Phillies, but none since 2016.

Making History: The Memphis Redbirds have now won 13 consecutive games, dating back to July 9, setting a new franchise record. The 'Birds won the final two games of a series in Louisville before sweeping six games from Norfolk at home and taking the first five games of this week's series in Louisville. The Redbirds have jumped from seventh to fifth in the Triple-A East Southeast Division during the streak. The 13-game streak is the longest active streak in affiliated baseball.

Starting Strong: Redbirds starters have been absolutely outstanding during this series in Louisville. Counting Angel Rondón, who pitched Thursday after a one-inning rehab stint from Daniel Ponce de Leon, 'Birds starters have allowed just one run in 27 innings over the first five games of the series.

Dominant Bullpen: The Redbirds bullpen has been lights out over the last 16 games. Over that span, 'Birds relievers have posted a 1.94 ERA. During this series, the bullpen for Memphis has racked up 21 strikeouts in 20.0 innings.

Loving Louisville: Juan Yepez has been a force at the plate in games played at Louisville Slugger Field this season. In nine games at Louisville, Yepez has five home runs and eight RBI. The 23-year-old has hit home runs in each of the last two games.

Representing the Stars and Stripes: Brandon Dickson is currently in Tokyo pitching for Team USA at the Olympic Games. Team USA will begin its run for the gold medal on July 30 at 5:00 a.m. CT against Team Israel.
