LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Memphis Redbirds homered three times over the fourth and fifth inning and their pitching staff tossed another gem to defeat the Louisville Bats 8-4 Saturday night at Louisville Slugger Field.

Bats starter Michael Mariot, arguably the ace of the staff as of late, retired Memphis in order through the first three innings and picked up two quick outs in the top of the fourth. However, after Nolan Gorman doubled, Lars Nootbaar and Kramer Robertson went deep on back-to-back home runs to spot the Redbirds a 3-0 lead.

Gorman doubled again one inning later, this time plating a pair of runs, and Juan Yepez lifted his sixth homer at Louisville Slugger Field of the 2021 season to put the exclamation mark on a seven-run surge.

Reds rehabber Michael Feliz impressed with a pair of strikeouts that baffled Robertson and Conner Capel. He finished a scoreless sixth with just one hit.

Louisville showed signs of life in the ninth, rapping out three straight singles and scoring three runs. However, Junior Fernández escaped with two runners on and Jose Barrero at the plate before things turned too dicey for Memphis.

The Bats and Redbirds cap their seven-game series Sunday afternoon at Louisville Slugger Field at 1 p.m. RHP Bo Takahashi (2-5, 5.55) seeks to stop a series sweep against LHP Connor Thomas (5-0, 2.28).
