Bulls Blast Knights 9-4

DURHAM, N.C. - Four Bulls batters crushed home runs, including a three-run blast from third baseman Mike Brosseau, while second baseman Vidal Brujan drove in three runs and starting pitcher Tommy Romero earned the win in his Triple-A debut in Durham's 9-4 win over the Charlotte Knights on Saturday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

After the Knights plated a first-inning tally, Bulls RF Ryan Boldt bashed the first of those four longballs, a solo shot in the second, to even the game at 1-1. Charlotte then brought across single scores in the fourth and fifth before Durham surged ahead with a five-run fifth. Brujan slapped an RBI single to center to cut the deficit to 3-2 before Brosseau's three-run blast to center gave the Bulls a 5-3 advantage. Four pitches later, 1B Kevin Padlo made it back-to-back home runs with his tenth big fly of the year.

Charlotte would narrow the margin to two with a run in the sixth, however DH Rene Pinto in the last of the sixth would crush the fourth and final Durham roundtripper of the night with a solo homer of his own. Brujan later drove in his second and third runs of the night with a two-run double down the left field line in the eighth to cap the scoring.

Brujan (2-4, R, 2B, 3 RBI, BB), Padlo, (2-4, R, HR, RBI), and Boldt (2-4, R, HR, RBI) all posted multi-hit efforts in the victory. Eight of nine Bulls batters recorded at least one base hit, while the triumph was Durham's 13th win in 17 matchups with Charlotte this year.

Romero (5.1 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 4 K) earned the win in his Triple-A debut, scattering nine hits over his 5.1 frames, while Adam Conley (1.2 IP) and Phoenix Sanders (2.0 IP, H, 3 K) tossed the final 3.2 scoreless innings, with Sanders notching his first save. Knights southpaw Kodi Medeiros (1.0 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, K) suffered the defeat.

With Durham having clinched a series victory with tonight's win, the two teams are set complete their six-game series on Sunday evening, with first pitch slated for 5:05pm ET. RHP Tobias Myers (NR) is slated to make his Triple-A debut for the Bulls, with RHP Jonathan Stiever (3-5, 5.69) expected to get the nod for the Knights.
