Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds are excited to announce they have clinched the Pacific Coast League American Southern Division, marking the fourth time in franchise history that the Redbirds have reached postseason play.
By virtue of best winning percentage, Memphis was crowned PCL American Southern Division champion as a result of Nashville's loss to the Round Rock in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. If the Sounds were to win their final two games, Nashville would finish the season with 78-66 record and .542 winning percentage. Memphis could potentially lose its remaining three games at New Orleans to finish with a 78-65 record and .545 winning percentage.
The postseason berth marks the fourth trip to the PCL Playoffs in franchise history. The Redbirds won league championships in 2000 and 2009, and lost in the PCL Championship to Tacoma in 2010. The Redbirds have gone a league-best 40-15 since the club was 6.5 games back and in last place in the division on July 3.
