Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, Neb. - In his first game at Werner Park since May of 2011, Eric Hosmer moved the Omaha Storm Chasers (74-67) into a tie for first place with a walk-off single in a 10-9 win over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (53-89). Oklahoma City plays tonight against the Iowa Cubs in Des Moines, and with a RedHawks loss Omaha will gain sole possession of first in the American Conference North Division.

Hosmer had two run-scoring hits in his first game as part of a MLB Rehab Assignment with the Storm Chasers, with a RBI single in both his first and last at-bats on the day. The Chasers erased a 7-2 deficit sparked by four RBI from Brett Hayes, including a game-tying homer in the fifth as part of a four-run rally, and the catcher ended the game a triple shy of the cycle. After that rally, Omaha had two different one-run leads erased, including one in the ninth on a Sky Sox solo homer, before Hosmer's two-out walk-off single in the final at-bat.

Matt Fields blasted two solo homers in the win, in back-to-back innings, including a go-ahead homer in the sixth. Fields' fifth multi-homer game on the season gave him 27 long balls on the year, with the Chasers having three of the five players in the league with 27 homers or more. It is only the second time in team history that Omaha has had three players at that homer total or above, the other being the 1999 season, and the Chasers hit five homers in the win.

Seven of the nine Chasers starters collected a multi-hit game, including Whit Merrifield who leads the PCL with 107 hits in 74 games since being promoted to Triple-A on June 7. Omaha has now won 10 of the last 12 meetings against Colorado Springs, and have totaled double-digit hits in 11 straight games vs the Sky Sox.

Omaha needs at least one Oklahoma City loss combined with winning their final two games in order to take a franchise record fourth straight division crown. They will look to keep the pressure on the RedHawks as they send out LHP Buddy Baumann (1-4, 3.19 ERA) to face off with Colorado Springs RHP Jair Jurrjens (0-4, 4.07 ERA). First pitch on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and MiLB.TV is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
