Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis scored early and often on their way to a 15-4 win over Portland Thursday night at AutoZone Park.
Six different Redbirds had multi-hit games and four different players drove in at least two runs. Brian Barton led the way reaching base six times in his second game with the âBirds after joining the team on a major league rehab assignment. Barton drew three walks, scored three runs, knocked in three runs to go along with a pair of hits from the leadoff spot. Nick Stavinoha and David Freese each drove in three runs for Memphis.
P.J. Walters earned the win with six strong innings of work. The right-hander allowed two runs on three hits with four walks and four strikeouts in his eighth win of the year. Enrique Gonzalez was pegged with the loss giving up six runs, five earned, on five hits with five walks.
Memphis and Portland wrap up their four-game series tomorrow night. Former Cy Young Award winner Chris Carpenter will start for the Redbirds tomorrow night on a rehab assignment. Josh Geer gets the ball for the Beavers. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with fireworks to follow the game.
