PORTLAND, Ore. - The San Diego Padres today reinstated catcher Josh Bard from the 15-day disabled list, recalled left-handed pitcher Justin Hampson from Portland and optioned catcher Luke Carlin and left-handed pitcher Joe Thatcher to Portland. Additionally, the Beavers placed right-handed pitcher Chad Reineke on the active roster after he was acquired from Houston in exchange for left-handed pitcher Randy Wolf on Tuesday.

Bard has been on the disabled list since May 22 with a left ankle sprain. He sustained the injury in San Diego's game against St. Louis on May 21. The 30-year-old catcher has played in nine rehabilitation games between Class A Lake Elsinore and Portland, batting a combined .125 (3-for-24) with a home run. Bard has started 35 games behind the plate for San Diego this season, batting .200 (26-for-130) with eight doubles, seven RBIs, nine runs scored and 14 walks in 38 games overall.

In 10 relief outings with the Beavers, he has gone 1-2 with a 3.48 ERA (4er, 10.1ip), 16 strikeouts and three walks. Hampson began the season on the disabled list with left shoulder tendinitis and was reinstated June 2.

The 27-year-old Carlin made his major league debut with the Padres on May 10 and appeared behind the plate in 30 games for San Diego, including 23 starts. Carlin was 11-for-80 (.138) with three doubles, one triple, two RBIs and 10 runs scored with the Padres. With the Beavers this season, Carlin is hitting .387 (12-for-31) with two doubles, three home runs, 11 RBIs, eight runs scored and 15 walks.

In 182 games played over three seasons with the Beavers (2006-08), Carlin has a .249 batting average, seven home runs and 57 RBIs. Carlin was named the Beavers Community Player of the Year in 2006 (with Justin Leone) and 2007.

Reineke (RINE-uh-kee), 26, appeared in 20 games for Triple-A Round Rock this year, making 19 starts. He is 5-9 with one complete game and a 4.41 ERA, recording 100 strikeouts compared to 35 walks. In his last seven games with the Express, the right-hander posted a 1.84 ERA (9er, 44.0ip) while going 2-1.

Over parts of five minor league seasons in the Houston Astros organization (2004-08), he has a career record of 28-32 with a 3.72 ERA, 487 strikeouts and 214 walks in 149 appearances (67 starts).
